Following the successful recording of all the other parts of the song over the last couple of weeks, my brother Mike visited the loft studio last night to help us with the vocals for our latest offering 'Better Be Home Soon'. Mike used to sing with us in a band quite some time ago and I've always felt he had a better voice than mine, with more tone & character. So it seemed like a good idea to ask him to record some vocals for this track.
After a slow start, mainly due to problems getting a decent vocal sound (I've not recorded Mike's voice in a long while), we got some good takes and I'll be comping them over the next few days. Once that's done there are just backing vocals to complete and that's it, job done. Another song for Soundcloud. Simon We continue to work on "Better Be Home Soon", originally by Crowded House, for the 'Short Stories' album. We recorded the electric guitar parts for this last night. Not a bad session all in all, and we got a nice little solo recorded which we didn't plan on getting.
Well, where to begin. All in all it has been a very busy week. We finished "Can't Get Enough", but also had a super productive weekend and recorded versions of "Living After Midnight", originally by Judus Priest, and "Brown Sugar" by The Rolling Stones. The latter song we feel came out very well and is probably one of the top two songs we have done, in our opinion at least! All the songs have been uploaded to this site & SoundCloud too so you can check them at your leisure. We have started a new album too. With the addition of "Living After Midnight", to the 'Fingers Crossed' album, this brought the total number of songs up to 20, which we felt is more than enough for one album. So it was time to break out a new title for our next offering and "It Seemed Like A Good Idea At Time!" seemed appropriate. On a number of occasions we have started some ambitious project which has ended up being a bit more than we bargained for, "Amate Ade" on the ' Blast From The Past' Album springs to mind. This is a choral piece in which Simon and I sing all the parts from baritone to soprano and everything in between. It has something like 30 odd parts to it and is in Latin, with all the organ parts programmed in MIDI, one note at a time. All in all it took us about 3 months to complete! Yes, it definitely seemed like a good idea at the time!!
I am on holiday this week, and have spent most of it setting up this website and all the associated sites to host the files and videos etc. Now that is done I have started to record a new track, a cover of 'Can't Get Enough' by Bad Company. I hope to have this finished tomorrow and I will post it up. Till then,
Ta Ra, Rich Just uploaded a version of Robbie Williams' 'Baby Girl Window', which we completed a few weeks ago but I've only just managed to mix-down. Pretty happy with it although I might revisit the balance of the vocals at some point. I should point-out that this is a minor milestone in Loob's history as this is my first lead vocal on any song we've ever done pretty much.
Anyway, hope you enjoy it. Feedback more than welcome. Simon If you want to see us recording the acoustic track mentioned in the previous post check out the Videos tab. Hopefully now we have sorted out the ability to host videos we should be able to post some more some time soon.
Rich Recorded the acoustic track to 'Better Be Home Soon' last night which is the latest track we are working on. The bass has already been laid down, so drums, more guitars and vocals still to go. We had some trouble getting the best from the mic positioning but eventually we settled on a set up which we think gave us some good results.
Hi, and welcome to our first update. We want to use this space to keep you posted with what is going on with Loob.
So let's kick things off... The biggest thing at the moment is the setting up of this website and the associated SoundCloud page which is hosting the song files. We wanted to set this up so we could easily share our songs with you and a wider audience. There were a number of reasons for wanting to do this; 1 - It saves us having to create CDs to give to people when we finish a song and it was sometimes difficult to email the files too as the file sizes can be a bit big sometimes and 2 - We felt that perhaps we had reached a level of proficiency where we felt comfortable allowing our songs to be heard by the general public. The setting up of SoundCloud is pretty much complete, but there is still reasonable amount of work left to do on the website. I hope to be able to break the back of it this week. Check back soon for further updates. |
